JEWISH WARSAW and KRAKOW

8 days

Warsaw - Krakow

The history of the Jewish settlement in Poland dates back till 11th century.
For the centuries Poland was the cultural and Spiritual center of the largest Jewish
community in the whole Europe- the community that in 1939 counted approx. 3,5 million
people.
From more than a thousand synagogues built before 1939, only about three and a half
million people were counted. From over a thousand synagogues built before 1939, II World
War survived no more than two hundred and forty. Some of them (like in Lancut, Tykocin
and Krakow) were transformed into Jewish museums.
After the fall of communism in Poland the important role of Jewish history and culture was
restored. An example of this are annual festival of Jewish culture in Warsaw and Krakow.
