INTERESTING VENUES FOR EVENTS

Designed by Jakub Kubicki, the arcades were built in 1818-1821. They shaded 18th-century
annexes and 17th-century battlements supporting the slope.
The arcades survived German occupation (1939-1945) and were not damaged when the Royal
Castle was blown up in 1944 during the Warsaw Uprising. After the war they were not
renovated and continued to serve as a warehouse for the army and back rooms for the Royal
Castle, on which rebuilding work was begun in 1971. Now after restoration it is one of the
most interesting venues in the city.
