Warsaw - Gora Kalwaria - Janow Podlaski - Bialystok - Malbork - Torun

This itinerary explores the East-North lands of Poland… characterized by a smaller population, lack of a large industry, but more forests, lakes, nature. It is also a borderland of cultures – East with the culture and tradition of the Orthodox Church, and North with Prussian traces in cities, Teutonic castles and technical monuments. The post-glacial “Land of a 1000 Lakes” is tourist pearl of this region, which was nominated for the prestigious international competition “7 Wonders of the World”.

Day 1, Warsaw arrival

Upon arrival to Warsaw Chopin Airport meet with your guide/assistant
and visit the Warsaw Old Town with the Royal Castle (built in the 14th
century as a wooden fortress for the Dukes of Mazovia) and Castle
Square (with King Sigismund Waza Column); then St. John’s
Cathedral, the Old Town Market Square and the Barbican (the city’s
defensive walls)…
Drive along the Royal Route to see a lot of churches, monuments &
then drive to the Royal Lazienki Complex - visit the famous Palace on
the Isle (located on an artificial island, was the summer residence of
the King Stanisław August Poniatowski)
drive to Wilanow Complex with its Palace (built for the Polish king Jan
III Sobieski in the last quarter of the 17th century) & Park – evening
sightseeing of the park.

overnight in the historic Koszary Hotel in Gora Kalwaria
(the building from 1863, originally a Dominican monastery, later a
military barracks – ancient times combined with comfort)

Day 2, Gora Kalwaria – Czersk – Janow Podlaski

Breakfast at the hotel; check-out
Drive to Czersk & visit the romantic Gothic ruins, the 14th-century
Castle of the Dukes of Mazovia. Transfer to the Castle in Janów
Podlaski, on the way a short stop in Uroczysko Zaborek - a private
museum of the Podlasie village. In Janów time at leisure - time for a
walk to the famous Arabian Horses Stud or to relax in the hotel’ SPA.
Dinner and overnight in the Bishop’s Castle in Janow Podlaski
(this castle dating back to the 15th century; from 18th century the
residence of the Lucki bishop, then the Podlasie’ region bishop.

Day 3, Janow Podlaski – Bialowieza – Masurian Region

breakfast at the hotel;
drive through the Bug Landscape Park. Passing by local ferry across
the Bug river to Mielnik & visit its open-pit chalk mine; Gora Grabarka
the holy place of Orthodox (there are several hundred crosses in a
small space). Transfer to the Bialowieza Forest (UNESCO listed) – you
have a chance to be face to face with the BISON – (optional)
guided tour to Bialowieski National Park - this trip is for people who like
to watch the wildlife in their natural habitat.
Dinner at the Tsar's Restaurant (Cesarska Restaurant) located at the
former railway station (the last stop on the railway line from St.
Petersburg to which Tsar Nicholas II came here from his palace in
Bialowieza,. On the way to the hotel, drive through the Narew
National Park, called the Polish Amazonia; and Tykocin, a historic
post-Jewish town with a synagogue and a castle.
Overnight at the Kaliszki Mansion in Masurian region
(built in 1830 by the Jorstreuter family in the traditional style of Masurian mansions, today it delights with its
unique design and atmosphere, as well as the regional Masurian cuisine)

Day 4, East of Masurian Region

breakfast at the hotel;
Scenic drive through Eastern Masuria. A visit to the Biebrza National
Park (UNESCO listed) located on the backwaters of the Biebrza River -
a paradise for bird watchers; Sejny - a historic city with a large
percentage of people of Lithuanian origin; A visit to the manor house
of the Polish Nobel laureate Czeslaw Milosz in Krasnogrod; Visiting the
Baroque Red Monastery on the Wigry Lake. Drive through the Wigry
National Park to Staniatki, known for its historical high viaducts (former
railway line to Krolewiec)
Back for a dinner and overnight at the Kaliszki Mansion in Masurian region

Day 5, Masurian Region - the brick Gothic route

Further explore of Masuria and Warmia Landscape (Land of 1000
Lakes, called Polish Switzerland) & see the highlights of this region:
Sniardwy Lake - the largest Polish lake, Mikolajki - the capital city of sailing.
Lunch at the Teutonic Castle in Ryn; then drive to Gierłoż & Wilczy
Szaniec (Wolf’s Liar - Hitler’s headquarter from II World War), Ketrzyn
with its Teutonic castle; a baroque Sanctuary of St. Lipka, a
pilgrimage site important for the Catholic church; Reszel - an old
charming town with a monumental castle of Warmian bishops.
Dinner and overnight at the Bishop's Castle in Lidzbark Warminski
the part of the castle houses the Hotel Krasicki; it is a fortified castle
from the 14th century; this hotel was given the prestigious Best New
Hotel Construction & Design Award in 2012 by the International Hotel Awards

Day 6, Lidzbark Warminski – Ostroda – Malbork – Torun

breakfast at the hotel; check out
Trip to the unique attraction of the region: Dobre Miasto with a
valuable gothic church; then to Ostroda with its open-air museum of
the Masurian village.
Lunch at the Karczemka Grange (optional) located near the Elblag Canal;
Ship journey on Ostroda-Elblag Canal (partial route) - the most
unusual and the longest (82 km) navigable canal, deals with the
99.5m difference in water levels thanks to unique ramp systems
where boats are physically dragged across dry land on rail-mounted trolleys.
Malbork Castle (UNESCO listed) - the largest Gothic castle of
medieval Europe, the seat of the Teutonic Knights.
On the way to Toruń, a short walk in two cities from the "brick Gothic"
route - Kwidzyn with a gothic collegiate church and Grudziadz with
unique granaries on the bank of the Vistula.
Dinner and overnight at the Romantic Palace in Turzno near Toruń
(built in the eclectic style in the mid-19th century. Fryderyk Chopin
was a guest of this palace)

Day 7, Torun

breakfast at the hotel; am time at leisure
Guided tour of Toruń (UNESCO listed) and its numerous Gothic
monuments, also a museum in the home of Nicolaus Copernicus.
In the evening, a panorama of the illuminated Toruń seen from the
opposite side of the Vistula.
Dinner and overnight at the Romantic Palace in Turzno

Day 8, Torun - Warsaw

breakfast at the hotel;
On the way to Warsaw visit Lipno - the birthplace of the famous
actress Pola Negri (Apolonia Chalupiec)- visit the Memorial Chamber
dedicated to her; Little village Zelazowa Wola - the birthplace of the
composer Frederick Chopin. Today Chopin museum - the manor
houses Chopin’s biography museum with the composer and his
family portraits.
Overnight in the historic Polonia Palace Warsaw (built by Count
Konstanty Przezdziecki in 1913)

Day 9, Warsaw departure

Breakfast at the hotel; check-out; Departure transfer to Warsaw Chopin Airport for your flight
