Witnesses Of The Past

After countless wars, partitions and other political and social turbulences, the preserved and restored castles and palaces are now part of Poland’s history. Priceless monuments of the past remained untouched in many places. Others were restored or reconstructed with such meticulous care…. Whether preserved or restored, castles and palaces are full of life these days. They are homes to museums and/or education centers. They are venues for cultural events or outdoors events.

… there are plenty of stories to be told, some are facts, other just the legends but they always belong to a place….

Day 1

Meet with a local guide and driver. Drive to the city center and visit Palace of Culture and Science – the highest building in Poland (built between 1952 and 1955), it was a “gift of the Soviet people to the Polish nation”, offered by Joseph Stalin himself. The big attraction is a large viewing terrace on the 30th floor of the Palace (entrance) – the excellent panoramic view… On route to the Old Town area: Krasinski Palace (18th century, at present the seat of Academy of Fine Arts); Branicki Palace (the late-baroque style palace, built in 19th century), Borch Palace (the seat of the Polish Cardinal-Primates), Prymasowski Palace (till 1795 Palace was a seat for primates of Poland), and others… visit the Royal Castle, built in the 14th century as a wooden fortress; former residence of Mazovian princes. Once the capital was moved to Warsaw from Krakow, the castle served as seat of the king and the government. Completely destroyed during World War II. Drive back to your hotel.

Day 2

Continue the discovering of major castles & palaces. Meet with a local guide and driver/car for full day tour. On route to the Royal Lazienki along the Royal Route: Ostrogski Castle (the first defensive structure to be raised here at the end of the 16th century), Kazimierzowski Palace (the oldest building at Warsaw University, and the seat of the rector’s office), Staszic Palace (built in 19th century as a residence for Warsaw Society of Friends of Learning), Belvedere Palace (classical palace known mainly as a former seat of the government)… and visit the famous Palace on the Isle, located on an artificial island, was the summer residence of the King Stanisław August Poniatowski. Continue drive to Wilanow; Visit the Wilanow Palace, one of the most precious monuments of Polish Baroque built for King Jan III Sobieski, surrounded by beautiful gardens.
